By 1976, the main directions for the further development of the aircraft had already been worked out and agreed with the air force. Thus, the upgraded version of the F-15C and its twin analog F-15D were to receive new weapons, first of all - medium-range missiles AIM-120 AMRAAM with active radar homing on the final section of the trajectory and inertial guidance with radio correction on the March section.
