As each country's air force began to pay more attention to night bombing, the bombing became more effective than ever. The Americans began production of night fighters in 1940, the US Army used the P-70 and Beaufighter to fight with the Japanese until the first P-61 Black Widow who stood in service in October 1943. In the models P-61A and P-61B there was a deficit in the maximum speed. To improve performance, two new, more powerful Pratt & Whitney R-2800C engines were installed. The increase in top speed and altitude was increased to 430 mph and 30,000 feet.
