As each country's air force began to pay attention to night bombing, the bombing became more effective than ever. To combat the night bombing, a series of night fighter aircraft was introduced. Americans begin their night fighter program in 1940 . The army used the P-70 Havoc and Beaufighter to fight the Japanese until the first 45 P-61 Black Widow were in active condition in October 1943.
