Additional Information
Released in 1952, the M47 was a further development of the M46. When creating the M47, the goal was not only to increase the firepower of its predecessor, but also to work out new elements of weapons: a gun, sighting devices, a guidance system. Due to the lack of time due to the war in Korea, when creating the M47 tank, new towers and the installation of weapons of the experimental T42 were used, and other units were borrowed from the M46 without significant changes. Since the M47 was only a transitional model, almost simultaneously with its production, the Detroit Arsenal began developing a medium tank with a 90-mm gun. The design of the new machine was completed two months later, and in December 1950, Chrysler received an order for design work to improve the project and the production of six prototypes, which received the designation T48. The first prototype was planned to be released in December 1951.
