Soviet multipurpose fighter created by OKB Mikoyan and Gurevich in the mid-1950s. The MiG-21 was the first MiG aircraft with a triangular wing.

Due to the mass production, characterized by a very low cost: MiG-21MF, for example, was cheaper than the BMP-1.
Just in the USSR, Czechoslovakia and India was produced 11 496 MiG-21. The Czechoslovak copy of the MiG-21 was produced under the name S-106. The Chinese copy of the MiG-21 was produced under the name J-7 (for PLA), and its export modification F7 continues to be produced today. As of 2012, China produced about 2,500 J-7/F-7
