the First Gato-type submarine was laid down on 5 October 1940 and put into service on 31 December 1941. The submarine is based on the Tambor project , but had a number of significant differences. Gato had modified diesel engines thanks to which increased the duration of the patrol, significantly improved the living conditions of the crew. The submarine served until 1946, today there are 3 submarines of this type, one is installed as a monument, the other two are Museum exhibits.
