During the Second world war, Germany's need for locomotives led to their production in large quantities. Before the war, the factories of Germany produced a large number of different types of locomotives, in order to standardize and reduce the cost of production, most of the designs were canceled, and the remaining simplified for the needs of wartime.  The locomotive BR-52 was produced in the factories of Germany and occupied Poland, during the design was taken into account the experience of operation in Russia, the steam boiler was insulated with glass wool, the locomotive was easy to maintain and reliable. Many captured and received on reparations BR-52 after completion were used on the Railways of the USSR to 70-ies.
