Additional Information

the Kingdom of Romania entered the war against the USSR on 22 June 1941. The plans of the Romanian authorities was the capture and accession to Romania of modern Moldova and Odessa region with adjacent lands. For these purposes, a fairly large number of troops were put up. Basically it was a large mass of infantry and cavalry, poorly armed, with poor equipment of outdated armored vehicles. The Romanian army suffered significant losses at the beginning of the war. So, on June 24 the Soviet frontier guards dumped in Danube the Romanian parts which were fixed there on June 22. During the offensive on Odessa, Romanian troops had a huge superiority in forces and means over Soviet troops, however, having lost more than 90 thousand people, were able to take the city only after the last transport with the last defenders of Odessa disappeared on the horizon. Stalingrad, Iasi, Chisinau, Crimea – all these names still echo in the memory of the Romanian army - these are the places where the Romanian army suffered huge losses and was destroyed by the advancing parts of the Soviet army.
