Soviet two-seat sports training aircraft of the initial training of the Yak-52 flight crew was created on the basis of a single Yak-50 in the experimental design Bureau of Alexander Yakovlev under the leadership of chief designer Vyacheslav Petrovich Kondratiev in 1974. After modifications and tests in 1978 it was put into production. Since 1979, began to arrive in the airclubs of DOSAAF of the USSR and was replaced by the Yak-18 as a primary training aircraft of Platov civilian sport and military aviation. It was in demand in the West, in the US and Canada. Factory Aerostar in Bacau (Romania) in 2013 built around 1900 Yak-52 all modifications.
