Mk V had a MK I/II frame with reinforced spars for the Merlin 45 engine with a capacity of 1470 HP. By June 1941, the production of Mk Va with machine-gun weapons was discontinued in favor of Vb which had mixed weapons of 20 mm guns and machine guns. As the most massive of all the Spitfire variants, the MK V was armed with over 100 RAF squadrons.
