Additional Information
The rise of the Williams team to the top of Formula 1 occurred in mid-1979, when Patrick Head in the car FW07 managed better than others to realize the principle of "ground effect", laid down by Colin Chapman and Peter Wright in Lotus 78 and 79. Various modifications of this car, as well as his successor FW08, all equipped with Ford Cosworth DFV, brought the titles of Alan Jones, Keke Rosberg and two cups designers team. In the era of turbo Frank Williams made a successful Alliance with Honda, which brought the team two cups of designers and the championship Nelson Pique. When the Japanese preferred McLaren, Williams spent one season with the Judd atmospheric engine in anticipation of returning as a Renault engine supplier. The period of cooperation with the French company was the most successful in the history of the team.
