Additional Information
Scharnhorst was a famous warship of the Second world war. The design of the new cruiser was carried out in a short time. As a result, the ship received a traditional smooth-deck hull design with an outer vertical armor belt that protected the citadel from the first bow to the stern tower of the main caliber, as well as a double bottom length of 79% of the total length of the ship. A model was carried out according to a longitudinal scheme with the mass use of electric welding. The use of advanced technologies allowed the ship to be launched on October 3, 1936. When designing the cruiser, the engineers abandoned the diesel power plant in favor of an experimental turbine unit consisting of three turbo-toothed units and twelve steam boilers (total capacity – 160,000 HP), located in three boiler rooms and two engine rooms, arranged in a linear scheme and separated by compartments-cofferdams. Booking the cruiser "Scharnhorst" was quite comparable to the protection of English battleships such as "King George V" or the German type "Bismarck", which allowed German specialists to classify "Scharnhorst" as a battleship.
