The battleship Gloria was built during the reign of Louis XV. Its construction began in 1756 in Rochefort on the drawings Clarin, Decouple. The main difference "Gloria" from other courts was the availability of copper cladding corps, which has found widespread the use of much later, namely after 1770 year.
for Most of the XVIII century, France did not favor ships with three battery decks. In the first half of the 1770s, there were twenty-six such 74-gun ships in the French fleet. So "Gloria" can be called the mass of the French linear ship of the time, which had two battery-deck, and armament consisting of 74 guns, which were located as follows: twenty-eight guns 36 pounders on the first battery deck, thirty 18 pounder guns on the second battery deck, and sixteen 8 pounder guns on the tank and the quarterdeck.
In 1779 ,Gloria became part of the Blue Squadron, which in turn was part of the so-called "Squadron America", which was commanded by count von Estaing. In April 1782, she took part in the famous naval battle near the Islands of All Saints (Dominique battle) with the English fleet commanded by Admiral sir George Rodney.
