One of the largest and most beautiful sailing ships in the world. Adopted 4 March 1949. as part of the detachment of training ships of the black sea Fleet training and sailing ship " Danube ", for ten years provided training for young replenishment of ships and parts of the Navy. It was received on reparations from Italy "Christopher Columbus", one of two similar training sailing vessels built in 1928 for training of officers of the Maritime Academy of Leghorn of the Italian Navy. By itself, the "Danube" was unique and was a three-deck three-masted diesel-electric pre-war buildings with a metal body and full sailing weapons that modern sailboats are extremely rare. It was originally built as a training and in addition to the sails were equipped with two diesels, which through electric generators could ensure the course in calm weather.
