Additional Information
Like its "sister branches" in the "Eagle", "Mircea" and "Comrade", "Sagres" was built in Germany at the Hamburg shipyard "Blohm and Voss". During his life, bark changed several names and flags. Under the original name "albert Leo Schlageter" he served to train officers of the German Navy. Before the Second world war he made one long and one short voyage to South America. With the beginning of hostilities, the ship was put on a joke and turned into a stationary training base. In 1944, he resumed his sailing trips, and on November 14 of the same year, during the transportation of the military contingent, the ship jumped a mine and received significant damage to the engine room. The sailboat was towed to Flensburg and then to Kiel. After world war II, he joined the us Navy and was named "Guanabara". In 1948, the bark was bought by Brazil and renamed "Santa Andre". Since 1962, he has served under the flag of Portugal, inheriting its current name "Sagres" from its predecessor – the training barque "Sagres", built in 1896.
