Additional Information
the Nuclear-powered icebreaker "Arktika", USSR, 1975.
No country in the world, except Russia, has a nuclear icebreaker fleet. Nuclear icebreaker "Arctic", was introduced into the icebreaker fleet in 1975, after the first nuclear-powered ship "Lenin" in 1959. "Arctic" was built at the Baltic plant in Leningrad and became the lead ship of the project series 1052. Later, 5 more nuclear icebreakers of this project were built at the Baltic plant: "Siberia", "Russia", "Soviet Union", "Yamal" and "50 years of Victory". Since 1975, the "Arctic" has served for the wiring of ships on the Northern sea route. In the period from 1982 to 1986 the icebreaker "Arctic" was named "Leonid Brezhnev". There is a version that because of a typo in the resolution this name was given to "Arctic" instead of the icebreaker under construction.
