When designing the destroyer PR. 956 (type "Modern"), the main attention was paid to strengthening the shock – artillery and missile weapons. The ability of ASW to these, in many respects, unmatched ships, was very limited (new hydroacoustic complex "Polynomial" designers are unable to post on the 956, as the dimensions were too large). Therefore, it was decided to create a specialized ship PLO, received the project number 1155. In fact, joint actions were planned in the composition of the compounds and groups EM PR. 956 and BOD PR. 1155.
the Design of this BOD was also developed in the Northern PCB (chief designer – initially N. P.Sobolev, then V. P. Mishin). Just as in the case of EM PR. 956, even in the design process was significantly enhanced weapons – installed sonar complex (GAK) "Polynomial" (much more powerful than the gas "Platinum-C" on EM PR. 956). Since these ships were intended for operations in the ocean zone, the range of the podkil HAC was almost three times greater than the range of the acoustics of the ships of previous projects. The BPC received a multi-channel anti-aircraft missile system "Dagger" and, in addition, the designers were able to provide basing on the ship of two ka-27 helicopters. The main (anti-submarine) armament of the ship consisted of two Quad-launchers of missile torpedoes "Blizzard", on subsequent ships of the series they were replaced by a more advanced complex "Trumpet-B".
the Head BOD of prospect 1155 Udaloy was built in Kaliningrad at the Yantar plant (founded on July 23, 1977, launched on February 05, 1980, went into operation on December 31, 1980). Total ships of this project was built 15 units, four of them – in Leningrad at the plant. A. A. Zhdanov (now the Northern shipyard), the rest – in Kaliningrad at the plant "amber". In Kaliningrad was built and BOD "Severomorsk" (laid 06 April 1984, launched on 29 December 1985, came into operation on 30 December 1987). For your not so long life of the ship was replaced four of the name – "Marshal Budyonny", "Marshal Zhukov", "Simferopol", "Severomorsk". In 1996 and 1997 Severomorsk was recognized as one of the best BOD for anti-submarine training in the Northern Fleet.
