HERMANN MARWEDE is one of the most modern ships in the world. It is the largest ocean-going search and rescue vessel ever built in Germany. The ship was launched in the summer of 2003 and placed in the North sea on the island of Helgoland. The vessel works together with other marine rescue units. The maximum speed of the vessel is 25 knots (46 km/h, 29 mph) and the maximum range is 3926 km (2120 nautical miles). The ship has its own small hospital, crane, and helipad on Board.
