German type II submarines were developed for coastal patrols in the North and Baltic sea, these were the first submarines developed by Germany after the First world war. Type II had powerful engines, had high maneuverability and was able to dive in 25 seconds. By the end of 1936, Germany had more than 24 submarines. The Type II was often called a "canoe" because of the extremely close working conditions of the crew. In total, more than 50 submarines were built, some of which by the beginning of 1944 continued to be used in the Black sea. The German Navy continued to use the boats as training until the end of the war in 1945.
