Additional Information
the LSM class Amphibious assault ship has been used by the US Navy in the fight against Japan in the Pacific since mid-1944. A total of 550 ships of this type were created. On the ship the armor plates were installed to protect from small arms fire. The early LSM were equipped with six 20-mm Oerlikon guns for self-defense. An open cargo Bay with a maximum width of 7.9 meters filled most of the vessel. By the end of the war, nine ships were lost, mostly due to kamikaze attacks. After the war, some ships went to the allies. In 1958, Germany received three LSM and two LSM (R).
