Additional Information
In 1859, the first oil well was drilled to a depth of 21m in Pennsylvania, USA. After 70 years, a dangerous step was taken from the ground to the seabed. In 1927, California passed the first offshore at a depth of only 6 meters. OPEC policy has made marine exploration and oil production more interesting. To date, about 380 oil platforms have been installed in the seas. In addition to the coasts of North and Central America, the second most important oil field was discovered in the North sea.
the Oil platform presented in this kit was built between may and August 1981 and began operating in December of the same year. Oil and gas produced by the platform are transported to the coast by pipeline. The deck of the platform has a total area of 4 000 m2. A huge structure, with a length of 170 m and a weight of 24 500 tonnes, is the biggest in the history of oil production in the North Sea. At the time of construction, North Cormorant was home to 240 people, now the population of the platform is more than 100 people.
