German submarines XXI series, without exaggeration, are the best ships in the world of this class of that era. In all the leading naval powers, they have become a role model. What was revolutionary about them? Creation of submarines of the XXI series began in 1943. Then the tactics of "wolf packs", based on group night attacks of submarines that operated from the surface position, ceased to yield results. Boats pursuing convoys on the surface were detected by radar and subjected to pre-emptive counterattacks. The submarines are forced to operate from a surface position, as in the underwater they have lost convoys at speed and had a limited supply of energy, doomed to defeat.
