Additional Information
Among the many points of the Treaty of Versailles of 1919 were restrictions on the presence of Germany's heavy warships. Small ships did not fall under the restrictions, and therefore, in the late 1920s began the development of torpedo boats. The design was based on a civilian yacht, however, the modification had two torpedo tubes. The design developed until it reached the most perfect model: 35 meters in length, weighing 100 metric tons. Even the locations of auxiliary weapons have been greatly improved. The structure was composite, consisting of aluminum beams and wooden boards. Characteristic booking appeared on the model S-100. The reservation was a necessary response to the increasing air superiority of the Allies and the increased number of attacks from low altitude. The boats were mainly used to attack allied ships in the coastal area of the British Isles. But also used in the Mediterranean and Black sea, usually under cover of night. Since 1943, when most of The Kriegsmarine's power was either destroyed or not in combat condition, these small torpedo boats have been few remaining at sea and performing combat missions. A large number of battles led to huge losses of these ships.
