"Biber" (beaver) is the most famous "pocket submarine". Designed for the German Navy at the end of the war in an extremely short time. The design began in 1944, the first copy was launched only six months later. The length of the boat is only nine meters and the range of 240 kilometers. Maximum speed - 6.5 knots, or 5.3 under water. The submarine could be armed with two 530mm torpedoes or two mines. The crew consisted of one person. The application of the plan Kriegsmarie was the defense of the coast against a possible allied landing. But due to technical flaws, Biber has never been a serious threat to the fleet. Since 1944, more than 300 boats of this type have been put into service.
