At the end of 1931, the government of the USSR decided to build 12 submarines of the "Shch"type for the Far East.
a Series of submarines received name - V a series of. The boat was a slightly upgraded III series. Because of this, the main tactical and technical elements of submarines V series were the same as in boats III . The changes affected only the internal placement.
Submarines of the V series were built at Leningrad plants and completed in Vladivostok and Khabarovsk, where these boats were delivered by sections by rail. Sections of the buildings had joints, prepared in advance for subsequent riveting at the Assembly site.
