the world's Second motorized submarine Resurgam (Renaissance) was built by Cochran & Co in Berkenhead, under the project of a priest from Manchester, William Harem. The boat was launched in December 1873.It had a length of 15 meters, a diameter of 3.3 meters, a weight of 30 tons and was operated by a crew of 3 people. The spindle-shaped hull with a sharp nose and stern withstood a pressure of 5 kg per square cm, which allowed the boat to dive to a depth of 45 meters. The Central sections of the hull had a wooden covering. The boat was equipped with a closed-type steam engine, patented by Eugene Lamm in 1872 and used in the locomotives of London underground trains. It provided 4-hour continuous operation. Armament was to consist of shestova mines.
