George Washington submarines - a series of 5 nuclear submarines with ballistic missiles of the US Navy. First time in world history a project of the ballistic missile submarines. Transferred to the Navy in 1960-1961gg.
was based on the draft nuclear torpedo boat "Skipjack". In the hull of the submarine, behind the wheelhouse, was inserted 40-meter compartment where and placed 16 missile silos. Also was increased the second compartment to enable placing of the equipment of launching ballistic missiles.
