Lafayette-class Submarines were created with the accumulated experience of operating nuclear submarines, with ballistic missiles on Board, of the first generation. Much attention was paid to reducing the noise of the boat, increasing the duration of combat patrols, as well as the ability to actively counteract the enemy's anti-submarine forces.
the Main boat of this class was the SSBN 616 LAFAYETTE, launched from the slipway of the shipyard Electric Boat on may 8, 1962. In the first series 9 boats were built.
