Additional Information
the Submarines of the type K - type a British squadron of submarines built in the years 1916-1923. Built for action in conjunction with a squadron of battleships, they had a full speed of 24 knots. Steam turbines were installed on the boats to achieve high speed. The submarine displacement was 2,566 tons, which was almost four times the displacement of a conventional submarine at the time.
type K Boats were torpedo-artillery. Torpedo weapons were represented by ten tube torpedo tubes caliber 18 inches (457 mm). Four devices were installed in the nose, four - in the fourth compartment, pairwise going to the right and left side for traverse shooting. The last two devices were installed in the form of a return pair in the bow of the superstructure. the Artillery armament was represented by two 4-inch (102 mm) cannons, first placed on the deck on either side of the superstructure, and one three-inch (76 mm) cannon capable of firing at aircraft.
Through the imposing dimensions of the boats had poor driveability and very long time of immersion. The installation of steam turbines has identified a large number of holes in the robust housing, with low reliability of the locking devices led to flooding of the compartments.
On submarines of this type there was a number of catastrophes with human victims, and all of them were written off, having served less than 10 years.
However, the boats of the "K" series served as the ancestor of a separate class of submarines - squadrons, which later evolved into cruising.
