In the XVIII century, the basis of the Navy were frigates. They are distinguished by high speed and was involved in the exploration, protection, patrol, pursuit and perform other tasks. In the second half of the century in France, 104 frigates were launched, they were armed with 12-pound guns. One of these sailboats was La Belle Poule. The history of the ship's name dates back to 1533, when king françois I, when visiting Toulouse, received symbolic keys from the hands of the young beautiful Pauline de Vigier.
