Unlike its predecessor, the La-9 had an all-metal design and a laminar flow wing, which led to a reduction in weight and allowed for an increase in fuel tank capacity and the installation of four guns. The La-9 was supplied to China and the DPRK, and was actively used in the Korean War, and after its end was in service with both countries until the end of the 1950s.
