history:

the Aircraft was created in 1928 in the design Bureau of Nikolai Polikarpov. Initially, the aircraft was called the U-2, ie training -2, as the technical task, was developed for the training of flight schools. Easy, maneuverable and reliable biplane immediately fell in love with young pilots. Excellent management and durability of the design were complemented by low cost of production. All future Soviet aces began their flight path to the U-2.

the Aircraft was produced in different versions, including sanitary, faithfully served in agriculture. With the beginning of the great Patriotic war, the U-2 massively converted into a light night bomber. The simplicity of the design made it possible to perform this operation in the field. The aircraft received a bomb load of 250 kg., and the rear machine gun ShKAS. In 1944, after the death of Nikolai Polikarpov, the aircraft was renamed Po-2.

the Tactics of light bombers were as follows: the machines came to the front line on small gas, then turned off the engines and carried out the bombing of objects.  Small and nimble Po-2 was invisible to enemy air defenses. And due to the fact that the pilots flew at low altitudes, and night enemy fighters were ineffective.
