The command of the Romanian air force wanted to use the aircraft also as a dive bomber. IAR-80A became the prototype of this option, and it, in addition to a pair of underwing bomb racks, installed a trapezoid below the fuselage for one bomb 225 kg. When diving, the trapezoid was deflected, and the bomb during the reset did not fall into the plane of the screw. However, it was necessary to modify the chassis at the same time, as a fairly long main rack trapezoid prevented enter the niche. The solution was very simple - the racks were shortened by 75 mm, and the niches for the wheels were moved a little closer. For effective bombing, the aircraft was equipped with automatic flaps that were produced at a dive angle of 60 degrees.
