development Of the B-2 Spirit began at the height of the cold war, in 1979. The program of creation of bombers with reduced radar visibility was called "Advanced Technology Bomber" (ATB). It was attended by the giants of the American aerospace industry: Northrop, Boeing, Lockheed, Rockwell. The winner of the competition was the tandem Northrop and Boeing, and the project of the aircraft on which they worked, was designated B-2 Spirit.
