Additional Information
After working on the Bucker Bu 181 Bestmann monoplane project, Swedish engineer Anders Andersson applied a number of developments in his next project - Saab-91 Safir. The triple tourist and training aircraft was structurally an all-metal free-carrying low-plane with a retractable tricycle landing gear and equipped with an in-line engine de Havilland Gipsy Major 1C with a capacity of 130 HP.
After the successful flight of the Safir prototype, held on November 20, 1945, passed the same successful tests, after which the first serial version, which received the designation Saab-91A, went into production. From the prototype it differed mainly by a more powerful engine de Havilland Gipsy Major 10 power 145 HP
the Swedish air force expressed interest in the aircraft, which was planned to be used as a training aircraft for initial flight training. Under the requirements of the Swedish air force, a prototype was built, equipped with a six-cylinder Avco Lycoming O-435-A capacity of 190 HP and made the first flight on January 18, 1949. The aircraft was adopted by the Swedish air force under the designation Sk 50 (from "Skolplan" - "training aircraft") and could also carry machine guns, practical bombs or NAR.
