Additional Information
the Beginning of fighter research began during world war II, but the first prototypes were built when the war was over. Such an unusual shape, combined with large screws of the opposite rotation, allowed, according to the designers, to create an aircraft with an extremely short (flesh to vertical) take-off and landing distance. The US Navy was interested in aircraft with such characteristics, since aviation was the best protection of ships from submarines, but it was not possible to allocate an escort aircraft carrier to each convoy. In the nose of the fighter was planned to install six large-caliber machine guns, also provided a place for the installation of radar, but the prototype was never equipped with additional equipment. The project was cancelled due to financial problems of the company and the beginning of the era of jet aviation.
