In early 1960, the company "Bell" offered an improved version of the helicopter Model 204 - a new Model 205 with an elongated fuselage, in which it became possible to carry 12-14 fighters or six wounded on a stretcher, or a load weighing up to 1814 kg. Moreover, access to the cabin was provided on both sides, and by installing a turbo engine Avco Lycoming T53-L-11 with a capacity of 1100 HP and a rotor diameter of 14.63 m were improved flight data of the machine in hot climates and high mountains.
