Wessex was originally produced for the British Navy (RN) and later for the British air force (RAF), later a small number of civil modifications and export variants were released. Wessex was used against submarines as a General-purpose helicopter and for rescue operations. The helicopter entered use in 1961 and was used by the UK for 40 years.
