F4F-4 went into production in November 1941. In an effort to better protect the aircraft, V. Swindler increased the size of brongespeense, under the seat of the pilot mounted brakepedal, defended the oil coolers under the wing of bulletproof armor. The wing was folding, with universal joint, patented by the firm Grumman. Armament of six machine guns had only 240 rounds per barrel.
