T-49 aircraft with a modified layout of the forward fuselage was built in 1959 on the basis of the su-9. The fixed fairing of the antenna was carried forward, and the air intake was moved back, making it in the form of two sectors. The flow part of the air intake and channel was designed in such a way that it provided isentropic compression of the air, which allowed to minimize the loss of total pressure at the inlet to the engine. In early 1960, the aircraft performed several flights, but failed to complete the flight test program due to lack of engines.
