In 1946, the first Soviet twin-engine jet fighter MiG-9 was created in the design Bureau of A. I. Mikoyan and M. I. Gurevich. According to its flight-technical level and the main characteristics of the aircraft corresponded to the European fighter production 1945-1946 years. During the years of serial production built 610 aircraft. MiG-9 was the first Soviet fighter to take part in the development of methods of intercepting jet bombers.
In the course of work on the aircraft-projectile class "air-surface" type KS-1 was converted to test the guidance system of one of the serial MiG-9. The aircraft was mounted instrument guidance of aircraft-missile KS-1 and the cabin of the engineer. The flights began in 1949 and made it possible to work out the guidance system and reduce the time of finishing the first Soviet aircraft-projectile designed for Tu-4X and Tu-16X launch vehicles.
