the New an-24 passenger aircraft was created at Antonov design Bureau in 1959. On its base was built military transport version of the An-24T. In 1967 - 1971 in Irkutsk 164 aircraft of this type were produced. In 1964, the developers proposed a draft of a new version of the aircraft, which received the designation An-26. It featured a new design of the nose and tail parts of the fuselage. In the nose it was decided to place the Navigator with glazing type An-12. In the rear part there was a cargo hatch, closing the ramp of the original design. The new aircraft could transport and drop in the air not only cargo and light military equipment. State tests lasted from 1968 to 1970. Full-scale production was launched in 1970 at the Kiev aviation plant. The total number of issued An-26 was 1398 copies, including 564 for the security agencies of the USSR, 420 went for export, and the rest to various ministries.
