Design work began in the mid-1940s under the direction of the English electrician WEW Petter. In 1949, the RP test pilot (Rollie) Beumont first launched a prototype of Canberra and struck observers jet fighter aircraft. Easy maintenance with a good management and almost without vices, the introduction of the Canberra into operation was pretty uneventful. In early operational exercises, the aircraft was almost immune to interception by modern RAF fighters. In 1953, Canberra won the London-new Zealand air race, flying 20,470 km (12, 720 miles) after 23 hours and 51 minutes. This plane demonstrated in the Royal air Museum, Hendon.
