Helicopter was developed in The experimental design Bureau in the early 1980s and is designed for landing from ships of marine units and their fire support, as well as for the transport of goods, military equipment on an external sling. It can be used for medical evacuation, transfer of personnel, cargo from floating bases and supply vessels to warships. During serial production from 1984 to 1991 at the helicopter plant in the city of Kumertau was released 59 helicopters, which were adopted by the aviation of The Navy of the USSR and were based on large landing ships of the project 1174 "Rhino". After the collapse of the Soviet Union, almost all helicopters were put on long-term conservation, but in 2012-2014 most of them were returned to the fleet.
