Additional Information
the S. 1 flying boat of Short Brosthers is constructed entirely of metal (with the exception of the wing skin) and is mainly made of duralumin as a material. This in itself made the machine unusual, since at that time this material was not used in the construction of aircraft to any significant extent. Its use in the manufacture of the body of a flying boat was another innovation in the history of British aviation: in the car of Short, this metal was used for the manufacture of the frame and for its plating. Thus, the machine in question became the world's first light seaplane built in this country and probably in the world. And not only that: this aircraft adopted characteristic of large machines twin-engine layout. The aircraft is a monoplane - another innovation, at least for that time.
