on 31 December 1943, the "Kawanishi" N1K2-J "Shiden" Kai, dubbed the "shiden KAI "model 21 naval interceptor fighter, made its first flight. The engine again caused complaints of testers and engineers, but still it was decided to run the machine in series. The fleet adopted the N1K2-J as its main fighter and fighter-bomber. However, the pace of construction of the new machine left much to be desired: until June 1944, was built only 7 new fighters. However, according to numerous experts and aviation historians, the N1K2-J "Shiden" Kai can be considered one of the best fighters of the Second world war. Widely known episode, when in February 1945, the 12 fighters, the Grumman "Hellcat" clashed against one N1K2-J Shiden Kai 343-th air corps, manned Kensuke muto. During the air battle, four American cars were shot down, the rest retreated. Thus, in the hands of experienced pilots "Shiden" was a formidable weapon that can affect the situation not only in a single battle, but in the battle as a whole.
