Contrary to logic, the next model of the "eighty-eighth", launched in the series, was Ju 88A-5, not A-4. The fact that one of the main highlights of the Ju 88A-4 were to be new, more powerful engines Jumo 21 IF-1 or J-1, but their debugging was delayed for several months. Another major novelty, prepared for implementation at that time, was a wing with consoles of increased scope and all-metal ailerons (previously they were covered with a cloth). Because of the hitch with the release of Ju 88A-4 in the series went version A-5, which was almost the same A-1, but with an increased wingspan (wing area was increased by 2.4 m2 by lengthening the consoles at 1.65 m, so the wingspan increased to 20.08 m).
