Additional Information
Do 217N-V1 first flew on 31 July 1941. With the exception of the power plant and restoration of the rear bomb Bay (the ability of carrying bombs, reflected the decision to use this type for night raids behind enemy lines on the Eastern front) he was like Do217J-2. Its first production version began to arrive in groups of night fighters from the last quarter of 1942. This version, Do217N-l, had the same radar FuG202, as Do217J-2. Other equipment included a device FuG25 providing recognition of anti-aircraft batteries and worked as a direction indicator for operator system "Himmelbett", rad Alt's FuG101 and shortwave radio set FuG10. Since April 1943, when the British air force began to suppress radio communication between night fighters and posts "Himmelbett", was additionally introduced VHF-radio FuG 16, operating in that part of the spectrum, which is not overlapped by the British. On some aircraft, the mg FF-M gun battery was replaced by four MG 151 guns of the same caliber. The rate of fire and ballistic trajectory of mg FF projectiles was slightly inferior to the desired, and MG 151 differed in both higher rate of fire and better ballistic data.
