Additional Information
the Detailed design of the monoplane fighter, which received the designation IL-400 (a fighter with a liberty engine with a capacity of 400 HP), began in March 1923. Polikarpov Headed the work. The design was carried out on an initiative basis, during non-working hours. The official date of creation of the IL-400 on may 23rd, 1923 when permission was obtained of the Main Directorate of Military industry (GUVP) to work on a new fighter.
