the si-2 is one of the new generation aircraft adopted by the red Army air force before world war II. It was designed in the design Bureau Tupolev brigade under the leadership of P. Sukhoi in the framework of the program “Ivanov”, which provided for the creation of a multi-purpose two-seater single-engine aircraft.

the First ant-51 prototype took to the air in August 1937. Since 1940, the aircraft was mass-produced under the designation BB-1, soon replaced by the si-2.

In the initial period of the great Patriotic war, the si-2 was actively used in many parts of the front as a short-range bomber and attack aircraft, and sometimes even a fighter. C-2R, equipped with photo camera AFA-13 were used as scouts and spotters artillery fire. In this capacity, the si-2 was superior to all aircraft in service with the red Army air force.
